Job Summary

Are you passionate about supporting learners, developing others and helping to shape the future healthcare workforce?

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and compassionate NMC or HCPC registrant to join the Professional Education and Development Team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Senior Practice Learning Facilitator (PLF). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting learners, registered staff and clinical teams across one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK. The role has grown and developed since August 2023, and we would like to make it a permanent part of our structure.

As a Senior Practice Learning Facilitator, you will lead on the development, quality assurance and continuous improvement of practice learning environments for nursing, midwifery and allied health professional learners across the Leeds placement circuit. Working in line with professional, regulatory and quality standards, you will support the delivery of high-quality placements that enable learners to thrive and achieve their full potential.

You will work collaboratively with learners, practice supervisors, practice assessors, clinical leaders, universities and regional partners to develop effective learning environments, support workforce development initiatives and promote innovative approaches to practice learning. Acting as a key link between clinical areas, education providers and placement partners, you will help strengthen partnerships, share best practice and contribute to quality assurance activities to create quality learning environments.

The role includes responsibility for reviewing and developing systems and processes that support practice learning, facilitating educational initiatives that enhance learner experience and progression, and issues relating to practice learning. You will maintain a visible presence across your portfolio of Clinical Service Units, supporting teams to create inclusive, supportive and high-quality learning environments where learners feel valued and able to succeed. This role will require travel between all sites at LTHT.

What you will bring to the role

What you Bring to the tole The post holder will bring experience in healthcare education and supporting pre-registration learners in practice, alongside a strong understanding of the professional, regulatory and quality standards that underpin practice learning for nursing, midwifery and allied health professional learners. They will be committed to ensuring learners receive high-quality placement experiences and will support and guide practice supervisors, practice assessors and clinical teams in creating positive learning environments. They will support staff to develop the skills, confidence and knowledge required to effectively facilitate learning in practice and will be confident designing and delivering education and training to support this.

The post holder will have experience of educational governance, quality assurance and continuous quality improvement, with the ability to review learner feedback, placement evaluations and educational outcomes to identify themes, risks and opportunities for enhancement. They will use local and national policies, professional standards and quality frameworks to influence practice, drive improvements and support the development of high-quality learning environments. Working collaboratively with clinical teams, education providers and stakeholders, they will maintain quality standards and support compliance with professional, regulatory and organisational requirements.

They will be skilled in building effective relationships and partnerships across organisations, acting as a trusted source of advice, guidance and support on practice learning matters. Working alongside clinical teams, universities and other stakeholders, they will share good practice, support innovation and develop approaches that enhance both learner experience and placement quality.

Comfortable managing complex and sensitive situations, the post holder will provide expert advice and support on issues affecting practice learning, learner wellbeing and placement quality. Through strong communication, facilitation and influencing skills, they will support staff and teams to identify solutions, implement improvements and foster a culture where learning, development and inclusion are valued. They will use evidence, guidance and policy to support decision-making and ensure practice learning environments continue to meet the needs of learners, services and regulatory bodies.
