As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you'll lead power system studies (steady-state, dynamic, transient, and power quality) to drive network enhancements. You’ll develop planning reports, business cases, and technical criteria to support network growth and new customer/generator connections – with considerable focus on sector electrification and decarbonisation. This is a key role in shaping the future of our transmission network.
Your Role in Action
- Develop network and non-network solutions for increasing transmission capacity of network.
- Develop and maintain the DIgSILENT PowerFactory base case model, including generator and load dynamic models.
- Prepare and justify connection advice for large generators and customers, managing stakeholder expectations on project delivery.
- Conduct specialist studies on rotor angle, small signal stability, frequency, voltage, electromagnetic transients, and corona.
- Investigate incidents and collaborate with generators and customers to define control system settings for enhanced power system security.
- Provide technical support to Asset and Operations planning teams, and engineers at all levels.
- Lead Joint Planning Teams providing technical and strategic input on options analysis and scope development.
- Manage accurate budgeting and cost tracking for customer and internal projects, ensuring budget adherence.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- At least 9 + years relevant broad and extensive knowledge and expertise
- Demonstrated technical experience covering the following areas:
- Planning, design, operation and maintenance of electricity transmission networks;
- Transmission system plant and its application, including the planning criteria, specifications and design requirements
- Large generation and load connection studies including assessment of dynamic behaviour, control system assessments and tuning of parameters.
- Modelling requirements for performing transmission network power system studies, including proficiency in dynamic and load flow studies using PowerFactory
- Knowledge of specialist studies in rotor angle, small signal, frequency, voltage stability, electromagnetic transients, and corona
- Economic and financial evaluation techniques.
- Eligible for CPEng/NPER registration
- Well-developed written, verbal and presentation / communications skills coupled with strong understanding of economic and financial evaluation techniques
- Familiarity with energy markets, regulatory frameworks, and transmission network power system study requirements
