Arup’s High Voltage team in Manchester, with Birmingham or Bristol as alternative locations, is seeking Senior Engineers experienced in power system studies to join our multidisciplinary design commissions.

You will lead studies for transmission and distribution networks, ensure GB grid code compliance, mentor early‑career engineers and collaborate with TOs, DNOs and clients to deliver robust, safe and sustainable power systems.

Qualifications

• Senior candidate with MSc/MEng/BEng in Electrical Engineering or similar; Chartered Engineer preferred.
• Experience in power system studies including steady state, dynamic and transient analyses.
• Strong knowledge of GB grid code requirements for new connections.
• Experience mentoring and leading engineering teams.

Responsabilités

• Carry out power system studies for transmission and distribution networks and recommend technical solutions.
• Apply industry-standard software to modelling and analysis.
• Lead technical project teams and deliver study packages on time and to budget.
• Engage with TOs, DNOs, clients and other engineering packages.
• Provide technical assurance for studies and documentation.
• Mentor and support early‑career engineers.

Arup's electrical engineers bring specialist expertise to solutions for buildings, transport infrastructure and energy, water and waste utilities. Whether in commercial property, retail, sport, mission‑critical facilities, the arts or any market, we meet the creative and commercial demands of designers and developers.

The Opportunity

We deliver power system studies for renewable generation developers, datacentres, private‑wire networks and transmission and distribution utilities in the UK and globally. These studies are part of larger multi‑disciplinary design commissions. Our team carries out grid connection studies for offshore wind (HVAC and HVDC), solar PV, BESS, hydro, green hydrogen, data centres and decarbonised industrial demand, including complex dynamic and electromagnetic transient studies in industry‑standard software. We also develop and deliver cutting‑edge innovation to clients to help drive the energy transition.

Due to growth, we’re looking for Senior Engineers experienced in power system studies to join our High Voltage team in Manchester, Birmingham or Bristol.

Is this role right for you?

Senior candidate holding a minimum of an MSc, MEng or BEng in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Power Systems or similar. Preferably a Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership with the IET.

Key Skills and Experience

• Expertise in carrying out power system studies including steady state, dynamic and transient studies at transmission and distribution voltage levels, evaluating system performance and recommending technical solutions.
• Detailed understanding of GB grid code compliance requirements for new connections and demonstrable experience in applying these.
• Extensive working experience with industry‑standard software packages such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, EMTP‑ATP and others.
• Experience performing power quality assessment studies, including Engineering Recommendations G5/5, P28, and P29.
• Engagement with stakeholders such as TOs, DNOs, clients/customers, and other engineering packages.
• Experience leading technical project teams to deliver packages of power system studies.
• Provision of technical assurance for studies.
• Mentoring and support for early‑career engineers.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience in DPL, Python, or other scripting languages.
• Experience working in a consultancy environment, managing projects and preparing bids.
• Knowledge of grid codes in the EU and in other countries.
