Job summary

SSE plc invites applications for a Senior Power Modeller within Power Modelling, part of the Energy Economics team. The role focuses on developing and maintaining long-term power market models to inform SSE’s investment decisions and electricity infrastructure planning.

Qualifications

• Experience using PLEXOS or similar modelling software.
• Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets or transferable experience.
• Strong commercial acumen with understanding of modelling changes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience in Python, Databricks, data science or power system analysis would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance and maintain long-term power market and power system models that provide robust insights into future power system dynamics, market prices, and asset revenues.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across Energy Economics to drive advancements in modelling for investment appraisals and valuations.
• Research and deliver new modelling capability for evolving systems and technologies.
• Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, communicating complex modelling clearly.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and safety-focused team culture.
