Company Description

ENODA’s world-class team are building the first truly decentralised, intelligent energy system that will reshape how we generate, store, and distribute energy.

Foundational to our holistic and integrated platform approach, the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger is a first-of-a-kind dynamic power flow hardware designed to maintain “on-target” frequency and voltage, increasing grid efficiency and capacity for distributed energy sources like renewables and EVs.

Enoda ENSEMBLE™ is our ecosystem co‑ordinator of ENODA and third‑party assets, able to forecast, aggregate, and bid capacity in real time, functioning as a networked “operating system” for the electrical grid.

This is more than simply managing electricity flow. It is about creating the foundational system to prepare for a radically more capable, prosperous, and intelligent future

Job Description

We have an opportunity for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join our Engineering Development team in Edinburgh.

The design, development, and implementation of Silicon Carbide (SiC) based power electronic converters are fundamental to the performance, efficiency, and scalability of the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger.

Our Power Electronics team is dedicated to building a deep, physics‑based understanding of these systems from high‑level architecture through to real‑world utility deployment.

This approach enables us to design solutions that are not only high‑performing, but also safe, robust, and reliable under demanding conditions.

We are looking for an individual who can turn complex challenges into structured, repeatable processes.

  • Design and develop medium‑voltage power electronics hardware, including rectifiers, inverters, and multilevel converter topologies.
  • Define system‑level requirements, hardware architecture, and interface specifications for power conversion systems.
  • Design, develop, and validate key circuits including gate drivers, sensing, protection, and magnetic components, considering electrical, thermal, and mechanical constraints.
  • Perform circuit simulation and system modelling using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, and PLECS, and translate results into robust hardware designs.
  • Design and develop PCBs using tools such as Altium, and support hardware bring‑up, debugging, and characterisation in the lab.
  • Lead hardware verification and validation activities, including test planning, execution, and performance characterisation across prototype and pre‑production stages.
  • Conduct detailed root cause analysis of hardware issues and implement reliable, regression‑proof design improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (firmware, control, mechanical, and manufacturing) to ensure design integrity and successful system integration.
  • Develop and maintain test methodologies and validation processes to ensure repeatable and scalable hardware verification.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and performance.
Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of power electronics fundamentals, including converter topologies (rectifier, inverter, multilevel, etc.), switching device operation, and power system behaviour.
  • Practical experience with circuit simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice/PLECS, PCB designing tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad, or equivalent), real‑time control platforms (e.g. SpeedGoat, dSPACE, TI F28388D), and complex system integration, bring‑up, and validation, preferably in power electronics systems.
  • Hands‑on lab and debugging expertise, including use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronics loads, and other instrumentation for system bring‑up and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience working with gate drivers, sensing circuits, and magnetic components, with an understanding of multi‑domain interactions (electrical, thermal, and mechanical).
  • Demonstrated ownership of a full product lifecycle phase (e.g. prototype development, iterative validation, field issue resolution, or corrective action implementation).
  • Strong analytical foundation in mathematics and physics to support modelling, control analysis, and engineering calculations.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently in fast‑paced, cross‑functional environments.
  • Solid mathematical and physics foundation to support practical engineering analysis and calculations.

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience with digital control systems (e.g., current‑mode control, PLLs).
  • Exposure to high‑voltage design and safety standards.
  • Programming experience for test automation (Python, MATLAB, embedded C).
  • Experience with real‑time control platforms (e.g., dSPACE, SpeedGoat, TI controllers).
