The Policy & Public Affairs team, within Strategy & Impact, works to understand and influence external policy and practice impacting residents and the delivery of commitments. It aims to build the Council’s influence and ensure Southwark’s needs are understood by decision-makers.
The Senior Policy & Public Affairs Officer will develop and deliver influencing strategies on Southwark’s public affairs priorities, oversee specific policy areas, advise politicians and officers, and work with colleagues to deploy various public affairs approaches such as events, engagement, media promotion, and alliance building.
This is a full-time position with ideally 3 days in the office, but some flexibility can be considered for the right candidate.
Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Good understanding of UK politics and issues relevant to local government and Southwark Council.
- Knowledge of campaign and public affairs strategies.
- Understanding of parliamentary and government decision-making processes.
Experience:
- Building and managing relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Writing persuasive outputs for diverse audiences.
- Researching complex policies and preparing briefings.
- Coordinating events and meetings with senior stakeholders.
- Developing political engagement and communication strategies.
Skills & Competencies:
