About The Team

London’s skills and employment system plays a key role in supporting Londoners to get the skills they need to improve their lives and for London’s economy to thrive. You will be part of the Strategy, Policy and Relationships team within the Skills and Employment unit, responsible for strategy planning, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and managing flagship programmes like the Adult Skills Fund.

About The Role

We seek a Senior Policy Officer to support the delivery of London’s Adult Skills Fund and develop policies aligned with the Mayor’s London Growth Plan. Responsibilities include policy development for ESOL, higher education access, stakeholder engagement, and research commissioning. The role requires effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders, policy expertise, and excellent communication skills.

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in policy/strategy development within a political context.
  • Proven ability to use research and analysis to inform policy, with knowledge of skills and employment policy.
  • Project management experience including monitoring and reporting.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills in complex environments.

Desirable:

  • Experience with migrant learners, ESOL, or access to higher education policies.

  • Building and Managing Relationships: Developing rapport and working effectively with diverse groups.
  • Communicating and Influencing: Presenting information convincingly and engaging others.
  • Planning and Organising: Managing priorities, risks, and delivering high-quality work on time.
