Job description

Job Description

Location - Leeds

As a part of the Chief Technology Office, you will help the Bank's Technology division pioneer a new, DevOps focussed, future for the Bank. At the core of our new technology strategy is the concept of scalable, self-serve platforms, along with more modern ways of working. To build this vision we will need a wide range of skills over a sizable set of technologies!

As a DevOps Engineer you will be expected to take a major role in designing, building and supporting our new platforms, at times working alone but mostly as part of a wider delivery "squad". You will contribute across our stack, from our cloud platforms to the capabilities which make up our developer experience. Where technologies or ways of working are new/unknown to you, you will be expected to drive your own training using the facilities which will be made available. We will expect you to take a keen interest in developing our junior engineers and spreading our culture to the wider Technology teams. We expect you to have a good understanding of DevOps concepts with an aptitude to learn more.

You do not need to fit the following bill perfectly, however matching strongly to the profile will substantially improve your recruitment prospects.

Role Requirements

Minimum Criteria

  • Understanding and practical implementation of both CI and CD
  • Good cloud automation awareness [AWS, GCP or Azure] with the ability to talk about the benefits
  • Extensive experience with Linux based systems
  • Ability to develop in one or more languages
  • Previous use of git for source control

Essential Criteria
  • Willing to mentor junior employees
  • Willing to experiment and fail fast
  • Have a security-first focus, baked-in not bolted-on

Desirable Criteria
  • Kubernetes production support
  • Previous experience in Python
  • Previous experience of Ansible and Terraform
  • Understanding of observability and its implementation; knowledge of Prometheus and Grafana would be beneficial
  • Understanding and ability to provide quality, automated testing as you develop
  • Ability to design solutions independently
  • Networking knowledge
  • Understanding of data science concepts
