Own the platform. Shape the architecture. Make the technical decisions.
If you're a Senior Platform Engineer who wants more than maintaining infrastructure and picking up tickets, this is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a cloud platform, influence architectural direction and build the foundations that engineering teams rely on to deliver.
We're partnering with a growing technology-led business operating across the automotive finance and customer engagement space, supporting a range of digital products and services. With an established cloud estate and ambitious plans to improve how technology is delivered, they're looking for someone who can take ownership, challenge the status quo and drive the platform forward.
This isn't a role where every technical decision has already been made for you. You'll work closely with the Head of Engineering and wider technology leadership, with the autonomy to make key architectural decisions, establish engineering standards and decide how the platform evolves.
You'll own the platform, not just maintain it.
You'll take responsibility for the architecture, reliability, security and evolution of the AWS environment, balancing the immediate needs of a live production estate with longer-term improvements to scalability, automation and developer experience.
You'll have the opportunity to influence tooling, infrastructure patterns, deployment standards and architectural decisions, making a tangible difference to how software and data teams build, deploy and operate their services.
- Own the AWS platform architecture: Make and implement technical decisions around cloud infrastructure, scalability, resilience, security and long-term maintainability.
- Drive Infrastructure as Code: Build, standardise and evolve Terraform/OpenTofu practices, bringing infrastructure under code management, tackling configuration drift and making changes safer and more repeatable.
- Lead Kubernetes and container platforms: Take ownership of production Kubernetes environments across AWS EKS, alongside ECS, Docker and the wider container ecosystem.
- Shape CI/CD and developer enablement: Improve GitHub Actions pipelines and create reusable deployment patterns that allow engineering teams to ship changes confidently and independently.
- Set technical standards: Establish best practices across cloud architecture, infrastructure provisioning, security, access controls and deployment processes.
- Improve reliability and observability: Strengthen monitoring, logging and alerting using tools such as Grafana, CloudWatch and OpenSearch, while leading complex incident investigation and preventative improvements.
- Own the underlying infrastructure: Oversee networking, DNS, load balancing, routing, Linux environments, identity and access management, backup and recovery.
- Automate and optimise: Reduce manual intervention, improve operational efficiency and identify opportunities to optimise cloud spend without compromising reliability or performance.
- Influence across engineering: Partner with software engineers, data specialists, IT and external infrastructure providers, acting as the technical authority for the platform.
What we're looking for
- Strong hands-on experience designing, building and operating production AWS environments, including services such as EKS, ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM and Route 53.
- Extensive practical experience with Terraform, including managing live infrastructure, reusable modules, state, configuration drift and controlled changes.
- Solid production Kubernetes experience, particularly EKS, with a strong understanding of container orchestration and troubleshooting.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions, alongside Docker and Git.
- A strong understanding of cloud networking, DNS, load balancing, routing, security and least-privilege access.
- Confident Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash or Python.
- Experience improving established production environments, handling incidents and implementing automation that makes platforms more reliable and easier to operate.
- The ability to communicate architectural decisions clearly, influence stakeholders and work autonomously with senior technical leaders.
Experience with Grafana, CloudWatch, OpenSearch, Ansible and working with external managed service providers would also be valuable.
