Job summary

Gravitas Group is seeking a seasoned Platform Engineer to work with principal engineers to simplify and harden a high-traffic publishing platform. You will support technical strategy, hands-on delivery and mentoring, reporting to a Principal Platform Engineer.

The role focuses on migrating legacy infrastructure to Terraform, securing IAM, network and data stores, and operating EKS clusters, Lambda applications and RDS databases.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in platform, DevOps or infrastructure engineering.
• Deep multi-account AWS experience: EKS, Lambda, RDS, CloudFront, IAM, VPC.
• CI/CD with CircleCI and GitHub.
• Strong Terraform; understand CloudFormation to migrate away.
• Solid Linux administration and scripting (Python or Bash).
• Kubernetes and Docker in production; observability and security by design.

Responsibilities

• Assess legacy estate across six AWS accounts and plan retire/consolidate.
• Migrate unmanaged resources to Terraform.
• Identify and fix infra security issues across IAM, networking, secrets, data stores.
• Operate and improve EKS clusters, Lambda apps and Postgres RDS; enhance CI/CD.
• Support agentic AI workloads with Bedrock and AgentCore; promote safe tooling.
• Lead code reviews for infrastructure, mentor engineers, document architecture.

Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for someone to work alongside principal engineers and peers to make a high-traffic publishing platform simpler, safer and better understood. Reports to a Principal Platform Engineer, supporting technical strategy, hands-on delivery, mentoring and standards.
Rate: £300 (Outside)
Location: Remote
Contract: 6 Months
Start: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

Legacy estate & migration

• Investigate the legacy estate across six AWS accounts: what exists, why, and what depends on it
• Decide with the team what to retire, consolidate or keep
• Bring unmanaged and CloudFormation resources into Terraform (the standard for all new work since 2023)

Security & reliability

• Find and fix infrastructure security issues across IAM, networking, secrets and data stores
• Make changes safely to the large, shared CloudFront distribution in front of everything

Platform operations

• Operate and improve EKS clusters, serverless Lambda applications and RDS databases (mostly Postgres)
• Improve CI/CD pipelines on CircleCI and GitHub

Agentic AI

• Build and support infrastructure for agentic AI workloads, including Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore
• Use agentic coding tools in your own work and help the team adopt them safely

Team & standards

• Carry out thorough infrastructure code reviews (security, reliability, cost)
• Mentor and guide other engineers
• Write clear documentation and architecture diagrams

Essential Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial platform, DevOps or infrastructure engineering
• Deep multi-account AWS: EKS, Lambda, RDS, CloudFront, IAM, VPC
• CircleCI and GitHub for CI/CD
• Strong Terraform, plus enough CloudFormation to read it and migrate away from it
• Solid Linux administration and scripting (Python or Bash)
• Kubernetes and Docker in production
• Engineering fundamentals: version control discipline, small reversible changes, automated testing of infrastructure code
• Security by design and observability (monitoring, logging, alerting)
• Genuine interest in agentic AI, with views on where it helps and where it doesn’t
