MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE BUSINESS:
As a Senior Platform Engineer (Senior Associate) in Kainos, you’ll be responsible for leading the design of significant components of a modern digital service platform, including automation, build, deployment, and support. It’s a fast-paced environment, and you’ll be trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions. You’ll learn about new technologies and approaches, with talented colleagues who will help you develop and grow.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Working as part of a team – Collaborate with colleagues in engineering, testing, consulting, product management, and security to build, test, and deploy high-quality software.
- Using technology for positive impact – Employ the latest technologies appropriately to maximize user and business benefits, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
- Putting people first – Support colleagues and foster an inclusive DevOps culture in all activities.
- Finding your voice – Drive conversations and decisions within your team and with customers to ensure services are scalable, secure, reliable, and performant.
- Supporting services through Live Operation – Ensure services are available, secure, and performant post-deployment, continuously improving them based on user interactions.
- Becoming a Role Model – Embody Kainos values, proactively coaching and mentoring junior team members.
- Pushing the boundaries – Develop specialisms through exposure to technology and potentially pivot your career direction.
MINIMUM (ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS
- Strong team skills, including experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Significant expertise in:
- Configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and automation tools.
- Fluency in at least one of: PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, Groovy.
- Experience in:
- Designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring, and supporting components within a modern digital service platform in production.
- Creating scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-effective designs.
- Technical decision-making in team environments, including architecture, estimation, and product planning.
- Implementing modern Continuous Delivery processes.
- Applying industry best practices across infrastructure and applications, including security and performance.
- Using public cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
- Applying configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and container orchestration tools.
- Using modern version control systems like Git.
- Debugging complex problems across servers and services.
DESIRABLE
- Third-level or equivalent qualification in a related discipline.
- Mid-level certification with a public cloud provider (AWS/Azure).
- Participation in knowledge-sharing activities.
- Experience with cloud-native SaaS and PaaS technologies.
- Experience in managing, mentoring, and coaching junior staff.
