Job summary

The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) in Oxford seeks an experienced Senior Lab Technician for the Plant Biology Institute. You will perform plant transformation, regeneration, and protocol optimisation across crops, collaborating with Transformation Scientists and other research teams.

You will bring hands-on transformation skills, strong data discipline, and a passion for advancing plant science. This role offers cutting-edge facilities and cross-disciplinary collaboration to drive

Qualifications

BSc/MSc in plant science or related field.
Extensive hands-on plant tissue culture and regeneration.
Proven experience with Agrobacterium-mediated transformation.
Strong understanding of selection systems and markers.
Experience with structured data tracking (spreadsheets, LIMS).
Ability to diagnose biological vs technical failure modes.
Excellent laboratory organisation and sterile technique.
Experience with QMS.

Responsibilities

Independently execute plant transformation and regeneration workflows.
Optimise tissue culture and transformation protocols across crops and genotypes.
Lead troubleshooting of regeneration failures and contamination issues.
Track and analyse transformation efficiency and pipeline performance.
Train and mentor junior technicians.
Maintain high standards of documentation, data quality, and reproducibility.
Support scaling efforts, including parallelisation and workflow optimisation.
Interface with scientists on experimental design and prioritisation.
