Job summary

Maldon District Council is seeking a Senior Planning Officer (temporary) based in Maldon. The role requires two days per week on-site attendance and is offered on a full-time temporary basis.

You will contribute to delivering high-quality planning advice, handle complex applications, and work with colleagues across the Planning & Implementation department, ensuring compliance with regulations and council policies.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to give sound advice and guidance on a broad range of planning cases.
• Experience of Town Planning applications with varying complexity and contentiousness.
• Ability to enforce planning legislation where a breach is suspected.

Responsibilities

• Deliver customer-focused specialist advice in Development Management and stay updated with current legislation.
• Manage complex and contentious planning applications, acting as the single point of contact for customers and attending appeals/hearings as appropriate.
• Support Graduate Planners and Technical Support colleagues as necessary.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, Members and key partners including Essex County Council and Local Councils.
• Access and update information systems, maintaining master customer records with data protection compliance.
• Prepare and present reports to Area Planning Committees and other meetings; present evidence at hearings and inquiries.
• Maintain personal and professional development by staying up to date with laws, policies and procedures.
