Job summary

Kent County Council is seeking a Senior Planning Officer for the Planning Applications Group, working flexibly across minerals and waste local plan-making and development management. The role delivers sustainable development across Kent from County Hall in Maidstone, with hybrid working and a requirement for regular site visits.

You will hold a planning degree (or equivalent), pursue RTPI chartered membership, and bring local authority experience along with strong communication and GIS skills.

Qualifications

• Holder a relevant degree (or equivalent) in planning or related environmental discipline.
• Hold or be eligible for Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
• Have experience in a local authority or similar setting.
• Development management experience, including handling major complex development proposals, environmental impact assessment and appropriate assessment development.

Responsibilities

• Act as case officer for the determination of a range of the more complex planning applications and submissions for minerals, waste and community development applications.
• Work on the Minerals and Waste Local Plan supporting its development and review.
• Collaborate across teams and maintain clear, proactive communication with stakeholders.
