Job summary

Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking an experienced Lead Lawyer (Planning & Highways) to play a senior role in its Legal Team. You will provide high-quality legal advice on planning and highways work, supervise colleagues, and contribute to corporate projects.

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX with a current practising certificate and at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience. Strong expertise in planning/highways law and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with practising certificate and at least 3 years’ post‑qualification experience.
• Strong expertise in planning and highways law, with senior advisory capability.
• Able to supervise and mentor colleagues and drive service standards.
• Good IT literacy and ability to use electronic publications for legal work and research.
