Job summary

Reading Borough Council in Reading is seeking a Senior Lawyer for Planning and Highways to support major regeneration and infrastructure projects. You will advise on planning and highways matters, draft and negotiate planning agreements, and provide strategic legal guidance to officers, committees and elected members.

Qualifications

• Experience across planning, highways and local government services.
• Drafting, negotiating and advising on planning obligations and related documents.
• Ability to provide practical, commercial and solutions-focused legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Advise on planning law, highways law and related regulatory matters.
• Draft, negotiate and complete Section 106 and Section 278 agreements and other planning-related documents.
• Support major regeneration, development and infrastructure projects.
• Advise Planning Committees, officers and elected members on complex issues.
• Provide legal advice on enforcement, compulsory purchase and public rights of way.
• Represent the Council in negotiations, inquiries, hearings and court proceedings when needed.
• Draft reports and briefing papers to a high professional standard.
• Build strong relationships with internal clients, developers and external solicitors.
• Mentor junior lawyers and legal support colleagues.
