Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Senior Planning and Environment Solicitor to lead a small team within the Legal Service. The role focuses on planning, highways and environmental law, advising Officers and Councillors, and representing the Council at committees, courts and inquiries.

The postholder will manage a caseload and develop expertise across disciplines. Qualified solicitors, barristers or CILEX with leadership experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX with eligibility to practice.
• Experience advising Officers and Councillors on planning, highways and environmental issues.
• Ability to lead and manage a small team within a wider legal service.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Property Planning and Environment team within the Legal Service.
• Advise Officers and Councillors on a wide range of planning, highway and environmental matters.
• Represent the Council at Planning, Executive and other Council Committees, and at Court and Inquiries.
• Manage own caseload with minimal supervision; supervise specialist professionals.
