Senior Planning Enforcement Officer

Location: Godfrey Road, Newport, NP20 4UR
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 6+ Months
Working Hours: Mon Fri, 09 00, 37 Hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 20.98 per hour

This position involves leading and investigating a range of major, complex, and high-profile enforcement issues within the Development Management section of the Planning and Development service. A particular focus will be on Gypsy and Traveller cases, including formal enforcement and court action.
Responsibilities
  • Lead investigations on major and complex enforcement issues.
  • Focus on cases involving Gypsy and Traveller communities, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Draft and serve various enforcement notices and injunctions.
  • Seek to obtain successful prosecutions where relevant.
  • Collaborate closely with a multi-agency group set up by the Police and Crime Commissioner.
  • Address issues of criminality and breaches of regulatory control in the area.
Person Specification
  • Proven experience in planning enforcement, particularly with complex and high-profile cases.
  • Strong understanding of legal processes related to enforcement actions.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-agency groups and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage investigations independently.
  • Knowledge of issues related to Gypsy and Traveller communities is desirable.
