Job summary

Cherwell District Council is recruiting for a Planning Enforcement Officer to join the Planning Enforcement Team. You will investigate breaches of planning control, assess expediency, negotiate resolutions, prepare formal reports and take enforcement action when needed.

The role involves handling complex cases and working with colleagues to deliver high‑quality outcomes. You will mentor peers, support team leadership, and represent the Council at hearings, inquiries and court proceedings where

Qualifications

Experience investigating planning enforcement cases and breaches of planning control.
Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Investigate alleged breaches of planning control and assess expediency.
Negotiate resolutions where appropriate and prepare reports and recommendations.
Take forward formal enforcement action when required and manage a varied caseload.
Mentor colleagues, share good practice and support delivery of a high-quality enforcement service.
Represent the Council at hearings, inquiries and court proceedings as required.
