Senior Town Planner - Cardiff

Location: Cardiff (Hybrid Working Available)

Penguin Recruitment is thrilled to partner with a nationally recognised, multidisciplinary consultancy in their search for a Senior Town Planner to join their National Development & Infrastructure Planning Team based in Cardiff.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Town Planner, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing Local Plan representations and developing planning strategies to promote land and development opportunities.
  • Drafting Planning Statements and other key documentation to support planning applications.
  • Assisting Planning Directors in managing complex planning casework and delivering successful outcomes for clients.
  • Liaising with local authorities, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior planners, graduates, and apprentices to support their professional growth.
  • Contributing to business development initiatives and networking activities to expand the consultancy's client base.
  • Engaging with internal knowledge-sharing groups and planning networks to stay at the forefront of industry developments.


Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:
  • MRTPI chartered status with relevant experience in planning consultancy.
  • A strong understanding of the UK planning system, with particular knowledge of planning policies and practices in Wales.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • A passion for planning and a commitment to contributing to sustainable development.


Day-to-Day

On a typical day, you can expect to:
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients to develop planning strategies and solutions.
  • Prepare and review planning documentation, including Planning Statements and Local Plan representations.
  • Attend meetings with local authorities, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to discuss project progress and resolve issues.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in business development activities, such as networking events and client presentations.
  • Stay updated on planning policies and industry trends to ensure the delivery of innovative and effective solutions.
