Are you an experienced Senior Planner with a strong civil engineering background looking to take the next step in your career? We're recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor delivering high-profile infrastructure projects across the Midlands.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking team, playing a key role in planning and programming projects from tender stage through to construction. You'll work closely with internal teams, clients, consultants and key stakeholders to develop robust, achievable programmes that drive successful project delivery.

The Role

As Senior Planner, you'll lead the planning function across a range of civil engineering projects, ensuring programmes are accurate, commercially viable and aligned with project objectives. You'll provide strategic planning support throughout tender, pre-construction and live project phases while identifying opportunities, mitigating risks and ensuring contractual planning requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and programming function on selected projects from bid through to construction.

  • Produce, maintain and manage detailed project programmes, methodologies, reports and planning documentation.

  • Develop realistic construction sequences, identify critical paths and optimise programme delivery.

  • Work collaboratively with operational teams, supply chain partners and stakeholders to ensure programmes reflect project requirements.

  • Monitor progress, identify programme risks and recommend solutions to maintain delivery.

  • Prepare and communicate contract programmes, progress updates and planning reports.

  • Liaise with statutory authorities, utility providers, consultants and other third parties to integrate their requirements into project programmes.

  • Support project teams with contractual planning obligations under JCT and NEC contracts.

  • Provide clear reporting on project progress, critical issues and recovery strategies where required.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Planner or Senior Planner within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.

  • Strong background in RC works, drainage and groundworks.

  • Experience working on high-profile Tier 1 or Tier 2 construction projects.

  • Operational site experience (Site Engineer, Site Agent or similar) combined with planning expertise.

  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and programme management.

  • Knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.

  • Experience in risk management, progress monitoring and delay analysis.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Highly organised, proactive and commercially aware.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject.

  • Strong IT and reporting skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Able to work independently while building strong relationships across project teams.

  • Meticulous attention to detail with excellent organisational and planning abilities.

Qualifications

  • Relevant construction industry experience.

  • Recognised construction or technical qualification.

What's on Offer

  • Opportunity to work on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

  • Long-term career progression within a growing business.

  • Collaborative and supportive working environment.

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
