As a Senior Planner in our Transportation Division, you'll bring your unique skills, work style, and background to the mix. We are seeking a Senior Planner with extensive experience in detailed planning of large, complex transportation projects. The role within our Transportation Group, based in Birmingham, requires a strong technical background in the transportation industry, specifically Rail & Highways.

The successful applicant will facilitate providing comprehensive Project Controls to project teams and clients. As the Senior Project Planner, you will report to the Project Controls Manager, with accountability to the Project Manager.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, world-class project controls team; working on some of the UK’s largest transportation infrastructure projects. You will be part of an experienced team that has a significant impact on the successful delivery of multi-million-pound contracts, using state-of-the-art project controls tools and techniques that provide concise information to support projects.

AtkinsRéalis Project Controls is recognized as an internationally renowned consultancy, working on large transportation infrastructure projects within the UK and overseas.

Requirements:

  • A detailed understanding of transportation technologies, including but not limited to: Signalling, Track (P-Way), Structures (tunnels, bridges, earthworks, embankments, buildings, structures, gantries, access platforms, etc.), Electrification & Plant, and Telecoms.
  • Experience programming multi-disciplinary engineering design and a good understanding of engineering activities and scheduling.
  • Excellent understanding of how projects are designed, procured, constructed, and commissioned.
  • Expert user of Primavera P6.
  • Ability to carry out Project Control duties with limited supervision and work independently on Project and Tender Programmes.
  • Experience managing junior planners, including task allocation, achievement checking, and providing feedback and management.
  • Experience with various contract forms, including NEC.
  • Experience with Schedule Risk and Cost analysis, Claims, and working with company Enterprise systems.
  • Implementation and use of Earned Value Management (EVM) on projects.
  • Understanding of Project Controls techniques such as budget and spend management, change control, data and trend analysis, Work Package Management.
  • Experience working on large projects up to £50m.
  • Qualified in Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred; member of APM preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to present complex matters straightforwardly, both written and oral.
  • Proactive, structured, analytical, with a keen eye for detail and data quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of project programmes and controls.
  • Represent and drive Project Controls Policy, attend and guide client meetings.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supervise junior team members as needed.
  • Understand commercial and financial aspects of project management.
  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Provide project performance data, schedules, and reports promptly.
  • Identify deviations and slippages, report issues, and advise senior management.
  • Deliver periodic programme updates, including changes and delays.
  • Prepare reports for senior management to guide project decisions.
