Job description

Paterson & Cooke UK is seeking a Senior Pipelines Engineer to join our team and support the design and delivery of complex slurry, tailings, backfill, and water pipeline systems for mining and industrial clients worldwide.

This is an opportunity for an experienced pipeline engineer to take a leading technical role on challenging projects spanning concept studies, feasibility work, detailed design, and commissioning support. The position offers the chance to work on specialist slurry transport systems and long-distance pipelines within a technically focused consultancy environment.

You will work as part of the European engineering team, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across our regional offices and contributing to the development of robust, practical pipeline solutions.

As a Senior Pipeline Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in the design and analysis of pipeline systems and associated infrastructure. You will lead engineering workstreams, contribute to project delivery, and mentor junior engineers while working closely with clients and internal project teams.

The role will suit someone with strong hydraulic understanding, practical design experience, and the ability to guide engineering work through multiple project phases.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Perform engineering design and analysis at various project levels (i.e., PFS, FS, detailed) of slurry, water, and concentrate transport systems.
  • Develop and review hydraulic models, process flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, and pipeline sizing calculations.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, specifications, datasheets and design documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership in the selection and specification of pumps, valves and pipeline components.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical and control disciplines to deliver integrated designs.
  • Lead technical reviews, hazard reviews and design workshops.
  • Support implementation, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting for new and existing systems.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals, reports, and technical presentations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of internal pipeline engineering capability.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, new technologies, and relevant standards affecting pipeline design and operation.
  • Represent Paterson & Cooke in professional forums, conferences, or technical collaborations, as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the design and operation of slurry, tailings, water or similar pipeline systems.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic design, fluid flow and pipeline system behaviour.
  • Experience delivering engineering work across feasibility studies and detailed design phases.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Practical, analytical and delivery-focused approach to engineering problems.
  • Experience leading technical workstreams or small engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits and project support.

For the right candidate, a flexible remote working arrangement may be considered, with regular attendance in the UK office as required.

Compensation and Benefits:

In return Paterson & Cooke UK offers a competitive annual salary for the position. In addition to the base salary, the position is eligible for annual bonus compensation based on company and individual performance. This role is also eligible to participate in the company’s benefits program including health and life insurance, employee ownership scheme, enhanced annual leave, occupational sick pay, a day off on your birthday and company pension scheme.
