An exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapist has been createdwithin our therapy team at St. Michaels Hospice. The position is advertised asfull-time, but part-time hours could be discussed.
Palliative care experience is not essential; however, the abilityto work autonomously and previous experience managing people with complexconditions would be advantageous. We offer excellent support and trainingopportunities, as well as the potential to develop specialist skills andinitiate and contribute to evolving clinical services.

The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of amulti - disciplinary team with in-patients, out-patients, community services,specialist clinics and Living Well Services.

Thetherapy team is an integral part of the puzzle within the specialist palliativecare team. Providing high quality care to patients with life limiting illnessesin the North Hampshire area. The role of the therapy team within the hospice isto support patients to optimise their function to maximize their quality oflife. As a member of the therapy team,this role will provide specialist knowledge to multidisciplinary colleagues inthe inpatient unit, living well services, outpatients and community settings.
Responsibilities
The roleincludes clinical, consultative, teaching, leadership and research, to ensurethe delivery of a high standard of service to all levels of professionals,patients, families and carers.
Be a coremember of the specialist multi-disciplinary palliative care team.
As amember of the therapy team, you will need to contribute to the effectiveprovision of rehabilitation and therapy support within St. Michael's Hospice.
Undertakeholistic physiotherapy assessment and treatment of palliative care patients asan autonomous practitioner for patients with complex needs.
Providephysiotherapy input to in-patients at the hospice, the living well service,out-patients and patients within the community setting.
Clinical Practice
Undertakecomprehensive physiotherapy assessment and implementation of therapyintervention for patients with progressive and life-threatening diseases. Thisincludes using analytical skills, clinical reasoning and appropriate outcomemeasures.
Tailortherapy assessment and treatment with attention to individual patient needs andpreferences.
Beresponsible for managing own case load across inpatient, outpatient, LivingWell Service and community settings.
Maintainfocus on optimising patients' functional abilities through appropriatephysiotherapy intervention.
Constantlyassess the ongoing physiotherapy needs of the patient, adapting therapy inputas their condition changes.
Be asource of physiotherapy expertise across the interdisciplinary team, providingadvice on managing patients' functional ability.
Providespontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carersand other professionals in order to promote understanding of the aims ofphysiotherapy and to maximise patients' potential. To ensure a consistentapproach for patient care and be responsible for assessing and orderingstandard equipment.
To workclosely alongside therapy colleagues at St. Michaels Hospice.
Organisation
To beresponsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet the service andpatient priorities.
Adjustingplans as situations change/arise.
Maintain accurate and up to datedocumentation for all patients that is consistent with the standards of theorganisation.
To be aware of and implement thevisions and values of St. Michaels Hospice.
Work within the Hospice andDepartmental policies and procedures and maintain compliance with professionalguidelines.
In discussion with the TherapyLead undertake work, as and when required, in support of St. Michaels Hospiceas an organisation.
Communication
Developeffective communication with patients in emotionally challenging situationsusing empathy and compassion.
Beresponsible for and proactively initiate effective communication with othermembers of the Therapy team.
Tofacilitate and support patients and their families to enable them to engage intherapeutic interventions.
Communicateeffectively with formal/informal carers, external agencies, both statutory andvoluntary, to ensure effective patient care, continuity and safe dischargeplanning.
Attendteam meetings, MDTs, case meetings, and family meetings as appropriate toparticipate fully in the interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
To attendTherapy team meetings as arranged.
Professional
Maintainand develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice in palliative care andincorporate these appropriately into clinical practice.
Attendregular supervision with your line manager and attend regular clinicalsupervision sessions.
Tosupervise junior members of staff within the therapy team.
Directline management responsibility.
Be anactive member of the in-service training and assist in teaching colleagues, andthe wider multidisciplinary team, including student therapists.
Participatein St. Michael's appraisal system as an appraiser and appraisee and beresponsible for complying with your agreed personal development programme tomeet set knowledge and competencies.
Maintain a portfoliowhich reflects personal and professional development.
To maintainregistration and abide by the code of conduct with Health and Care ProfessionalCouncil.
Contributeand participate in audit and clinical governance to support quality improvementprojects.
Administrative
Be responsible forthe accurate and timely input of physiotherapy related patient data into therelevant patient recording system.
Other
To beconfident and competent in the safe use of equipment whilst conductingphysiotherapy duties.
To beresponsible for reporting any hazards or defects of equipment requiring repairthrough the appropriate channels.
Undertakeand keep up to date with mandatory statutory training as required by thehospice.
Toundertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the line manager orany other senior colleague.
General Responsibilities
Work to maintain the values,vision and aims of St. Michaels Hospice.
Additional Duties In discussion with the line manager to undertakework, as and when required, in support of St. Michaels Hospice as anorganisation.
Public Relations To represent St. Michaels Hospice in the communityand public domain, including social media, appropriately.
Undertake all statutory andmandatory training, as required.
To be conversant with and adhere to all St. Michaels Hospice Policiesand Procedures.
Be responsible for upholding and promoting St. Michaels Hospicesafeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals,and promptly reporting any concerns or incidents in accordance with establishedprocedures.
