Job overview

An exciting, fixed term opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist with a special interest in Falls and Bone Health Management to gain experience in our existing team.

Our Falls Prevention Service offers a multi-disciplinary risk management approach which meets the needs of a wide number of patients, both those who have fallen or those who are worried about falling. We also provide bone health management and fracture risk assessment and prevention for adults aged 50 and over.

Main duties of the job

You will be a physiotherapist who has either completed your core band 5 rotations, or an existing band 6 who would like the opportunity to develop your clinical skills further in the specialty of falls prevention, whilst influencing service provision.

You will have the opportunity to work in Falls Clinic’s and various rehab settings, as well as in patient’s own homes. Supervision of assistants and students at all levels is a requirement of the post.

Travel is an integral part of the post so applicants should possess the ability and willingness to travel across the borough for work purposes.

Candidates should have:

  • A valid HPC registration
  • Relevant post graduate practical experience in the NHS as a band 5/6 Physiotherapist, including experience working in Care of the Elderly.
  • A good working knowledge of Falls risks and their management
  • An interest in, or knowledge of bone health and the risk factors for Osteoporosis and fracture

Qualifications
  • Diploma/Degree in physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registered
Experience
  • Relevant post graduate practical experience in the NHS as a band 5/6 Physiotherapist, including experience working with older people.
  • Broad range of core clinical specialities including Orthopaedics, Medical, Neurology and Older People
  • Evidence of personal/ professional development (portfolio) and the use of evidence-based practice in the clinical setting
  • Experience working with people at risk of falling or fracture
  • Experience of the workings of a community Physiotherapy service, or multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of supervising therapy assistants, junior staff or students
  • Involvement in audit, research and understanding quality improvement process
  • Minimum of 2 years post graduate NHS experience
Knowledge
  • Bone health and risk factors for Osteoporosis and fracture
  • Falls Risk factors and how to modify
  • Knowledge of National Service Frameworks and NICE clinical guidelines relevant to bone health and Falls Prevention
Skills
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner and have the ability to organise, prioritise and delegate work, in a timely fashion
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information in a clear and logical manner, both orally and in writing, including the use of IT and presentation skills
  • Ability & willingness to independently travel to various sites across the organisation
Personal Attributes
  • Mature, friendly, confident and efficient in dealing with people at all levels, with ability to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and tact.
  • Ability to problem solve and take initiative appropriately
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations and where conflicts may arise
