Job summary

ByteHire is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (PHP) to join a small backend team building a cloud-native cybersecurity platform. You will design and implement high-performance backend services, REST APIs, and data pipelines using PHP (Laravel).

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend development experience with PHP, Laravel preferred.
• Deep Elasticsearch knowledge: index design, queries, performance tuning.
• MySQL schema design, indexing and query optimisation.
• Experience building data-heavy or search-driven systems.
• API design, microservices, and cloud-native architecture.
• Docker, cloud deployments, and CI/CD workflows.
• Secure coding practices and system hardening.
• Automated unit and functional tests.
• Experience with data ingestion across sources.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, threat intelligence, or data protection.
• Monitoring, observability, and performance profiling.
• Experience with analytics, AI, or LLM-powered features.
• Proficiency in Python or Java.
• Experience with AWS and Kafka environments.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of requirements discovery, scope, and delivery planning.
• Define user stories and technical approaches with stakeholders.
• Contribute to roadmaps and delivery plans balancing priorities and constraints.
• Design, develop, and maintain PHP (Laravel v10) backend services and APIs.
• Own Elasticsearch implementations: mappings, queries, and tuning.
• Design MySQL schemas and optimize queries for high-volume workloads.
• Build data ingestion pipelines from multiple sources.
• Design microservices and distributed systems for search, analytics, and alerts.
• Deploy, monitor, and scale services using Docker, CI/CD, and AWS.
• Ensure secure coding practices and compliance with data protection requirements.
• Implement automated tests and uphold code quality.
• Document APIs, data models, and system behaviour; mentor others.
