Job summary

Morson Edge in the UK is seeking a Senior Photonics Engineer for a permanent onsite role in the Bristol/South West corridor. You will join a sovereign defence programme, embedded with a leading photonics research group, delivering advanced capabilities.

The horizon is long-term, with regular visits to the research lab to stay integrated with the team and to build internal capability. Relocation support is available for the right candidate, with a target to start before Christmas 2026.

Qualifications

• 5-15 years post-graduation with hands-on photonics and laser heritage.
• Experience setting up free-space optical systems and lasers.
• Strong understanding of light guidance principles including optical modes.
• Desirable: high-power lasers, optical fibre fabrication, and R&D industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Represent the company as a long-term embedded member of a leading UK photonics research group.
• Work five days a week with the research partner in the M4 corridor / South West England area.
• Attend regular visits to the main research laboratory to stay integrated with the wider engineering team.
• Contribute to advanced photonics research relevant to the defence programme.
