Senior Occupational Therapist (Band 7)

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinician to join our friendly and exciting Urgent Response Team. You should have a broad range of experience in occupational therapy, including assessing and developing treatment plans for older people and those with physical disabilities.

You will jointly lead the OT team and provide clinical and therapeutic guidance to colleagues working with people with complex needs. Your role will include service development, practice improvement, and fostering effective inter-disciplinary working.

The urgent response team collaborates closely within the bed-based intermediate care service, Virtual ward, Rapid response, and urgent therapy provision. You will be part of a large, newly created service with other MDT members and will be expected to join our weekend rota (enhanced pay).

Main duties of the job

  • Manage complex cases; assess, treat, and rehabilitate community patients in their homes within the Haringey borough, as part of the urgent care service and community rehab team.
  • Provide specialist assessments, interventions, and guidance to support patients in their home environments, escalate risks, and train staff and service users.
  • Supervise senior/junior OT staff.
  • Support service managers in implementing change and participate in service development and staff management.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL

  • Work within professional standards and guidelines, managing a caseload of complex cases and providing specialist OT assessments and interventions in various settings.
  • Prioritise referrals and establish therapeutic relationships with clients and families.
  • Assess for and diagnose functional, physical, cognitive, and sensory deficits using appropriate assessments.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, coordinate interventions, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide expert advice, participate in triage, maintain documentation, and ensure services are responsive and compliant with policies and standards.
  • Undertake leadership, supervision, and staff management duties, including CPD and data collection.

Person specification

Essentials:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a physical health setting at Band 6 or above
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification

Skills and knowledge:

  • Problem-solving in complex situations, staff supervision, training, and service development experience.
  • Knowledge of medical conditions, outcome measures, communication skills, clinical reasoning, and staff management.
