Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Pharmacy Technician (Band 5) to join our dynamic Pharmacy Procurement Team based at North Manchester General Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in medicines procurement while contributing to the delivery of high-quality pharmacy services across one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country.

As a Pharmacy Technician within the Procurement Team, you will play a key role in supporting the timely and cost-effective supply of medicines across MFT's four hospital sites. Working collaboratively with Pharmacy Technicians, Assistant Technical Officers, Pharmacists, and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure that patients receive the medicines they need, when they need them. You will be expected to work independently, following departmental, Trust, and professional policies, procedures, and standards.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertaking daily medicines ordering activities for North Manchester General Hospital.
  • Conducting risk assessments for unlicensed medicines to support the safe and timely procurement of medicines for patient care.
  • Supporting the maintenance and updating of national, regional, and local medicines contracts within the pharmacy procurement system.
  • Assisting with the management and coordination of medicines recalls and drug alerts.
  • Ensuring that off-contract purchasing claims are identified, monitored, and processed in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the department's daily stock-taking and stock management processes.
  • Liaising with pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff to ensure the timely availability of medicines and resolve supply issues.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of procurement and medicines supply processes across the Trust.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. Essential
  • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent (2 Years), or qualifying in 2023
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC, or qualifying in 2024
Desirable
  • Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) qualification.
Knowledge
Essential
  • Understanding of pharmacy procurement and medicines supply processes.
  • Knowledge of national, regional, and local medicines contracts.
  • Knowledge of information governance, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.
Experience
Essential
  • Experience using computer systems and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Outlook and Excel).
  • Experience conducting audit and risk assessments.
  • Experience of working in a supervisory role
