We are committed to providing a high-quality, safe & effective pharmacy service that makes a real difference to our patients, and we are looking for a highly-motivated, GPhC-registered Pharmacy Technician to join our well-integrated clinical & technical team to achieve this.

You need to be a qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC to apply for this post, with an interest in delivering high-quality training across pharmacy technical roles. You will work closely with the Lead Pharmacy Techncian to plan, deliver and document all local training relating to pharmacy operational activity. You will contribute to the review and development of training packs, and participate in end-point assessment.

This role is primarily based at Warwick hospital, which has excellent transport links to Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry and surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for ensuring a consistent and standardised approach to the delivery of departmental training for technical staff within the pharmacy department and also contributing to the training of pharmacists and other staff groups where required. Will support the management and development of pharmacy training programmes and promote safe working practises in line with standard operating procedures and Trust policies. Contribute to the delivery of Level 2 & 3 qualifications through assessment and quality assurance processes.

Job responsibilities
Main Job Summary

To support the management, development and delivery of training for pharmacy staff, maintaining the highest professional standards and ensuring trainees comply with all pharmacy SOPs.

To deputise in the absence of the Lead Pharmacy Technician - Education & Training

Act as an assessor & training supervisor as required for qualifications delivered within the pharmacy department.

Act as a facilitator/ educational supervisor for post registration qualifications for Pharmacy Technicians where appropriate.

To support staff ensuring standardisation of practice and learning. Develop and implement training programmes and monitor outcomes, reporting to the Lead Technician for Education & training.

Responsible for the preparation of induction programmes for all new starters in the pharmacy technical team.

Contributing to the development and maintenance of SOPs.

To be responsible for the collection, recording and presentation of appropriate data relating to education and training.

To maintain Accredited Accuracy Checking status and perform the final accuracy check of prescriptions and dispensing requests in accordance with departmental policy.

Contribute to the effectiveness of the pharmacy by making suggestions for innovation and development of the work of the section

Ensure all medication incidents are reported in accordance with Trust policy

To assist in the recruitment and selection process of pharmacy technical and support staff

To maintain current awareness, attend meetings and training courses relevant to the role and to encourage other staff to participate in further relevant training schemes necessary to keep pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge up to date

Dispensary based duties

Carry out dispensing of drugs, medicated dressings, enteral feeds, and drug-related devices for outpatients, in-patients, and clinical trial patients, from the dispensary as required.

Give routine pharmaceutical advice to healthcare staff within professional limitations, referring to a pharmacist if required.

Undertake the final accuracy checking (as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician ACPT) of dispensed prescriptions in the dispensary in accordance with pharmacy departmental policies and procedures. Ensure the timely and supportive notification to dispensers, of any error found when checking

To ensure such errors are recorded, and to participate in the Trust Incident Reporting process as appropriate.

Counsel all out-patients when issuing drugs, and in-patients as appropriate, in order to ensure the safe and effective use and storage of their medicines.

Cover day to day managerial duties in the absence of the section Lead Technician, including managing and prioritising daily workload, organising staff breaks and ensuring adequate cover in all areas during times of absence.

Undertake audits, which include regular safe handling and storage of medicines audits on wards and in Departments. To work with ward staff to develop action plans on audit outcomes and give advice and support as appropriate.

Monitor the continued suitability of pharmaceutical stock on wards and in departments and to arrange the appropriate removal/destruction in accordance with environmental regulations.

Special Requirements

The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties considered appropriate to the post and grade by the line manager.

The post-holder will have Warwick Hospital as their main base but may be required to work at and/or visit other hospitals in the Trust, or the Trusts we serve.
