Job description

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a modern forward thinking large teaching hospital employing 10,000 staff and offering a full medical service to a population of over 570,000. It has strong links with both the School of Pharmacy with onsite teacher practitioner posts and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia.

The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust and to a number of external community units. We are a large and very busy department with over 180 members of staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, admin and clerical staff and apprentices. There are many varied roles and we all work as a team to provide the different functions and services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.

To support an expansion of chemotherapy services at the NNUH we have received new funding for our Aseptics department to enable us to increase capacity.

Pharmacy Technicians and Science Manufacturing technicians are vital members of the pharmacy aseptic team who work closely with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Assistants and with other staff within the Pharmacy and Trust.

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Aseptic Services Technician to join our large and busy pharmacy aseptic team. You will either already be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or the Science Council or be recently qualified/close to qualifying and preparing to register. Please note: if you are close to qualifying as a Pharmacy Technician / Science Manufacturing Technician and are successful in gaining this post with us, you will be required to have completed 2 years’ work experience with your current employer and gain registration with the GPhC or the Science Council before you can start work with us in this post.

If you do not already have the required skills/qualifications, this post is an exciting opportunity to join us as a band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant and to develop the required knowledge and skills and to complete the Science Manufacturing Technician course to become a Band 4 Science Manufacturing Technician. Support, training, and assessment will enable you to achieve the core and enhanced competencies required for the post.

This is a 2 year course comprising of 20 months of study (1 day a week virtual classroom with West Suffolk College) followed by an End point Assessment. We will support you throughout the entire course. Enrolment for the course will be in October 2024. Once qualified and registered with the Science Council the successful applicant will transition from a band 3 to band 4.
