Job description

Senior People Consultant - Commercial (fixed term / secondment opportunity until the end of March 2026)

The Bridge

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

Senior People Consultant - Commercial (fixed term / secondment opportunity until the end of March 2026)

Scottish Water’s People Directorate is committed to delivering an inspiring people experience that enables our employees to flourish. We aim to create interactions that are simple, bold, purposeful, and centred around people.

We’re currently seeking a motivated individual to support our commercial activities within the People team. This role focuses on the management of core people services—including occupational health—which play a vital role in safeguarding the safety, health, and wellbeing of our colleagues across Scottish Water.

In this position, you’ll report to the Senior Commercial Consultant and play a key role in supporting our core business activities. You’ll help ensure that our colleagues are well-supported in matters of safety, health, and wellbeing by managing our partners effectively and driving continuous improvement across various day-to-day services. A central part of your responsibility will involve partner management, making sure they deliver exceptional service to Scottish Water. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills are essential.

The role

You’ll oversee a variety of core people services such as occupational health, absence management, and wellness services. This includes managing partner performance, addressing issues, compiling reports, and maintaining close collaboration with internal stakeholders and employees. A drive for continuous improvement will be important, as you’ll regularly identify and embed enhancements to existing services and introduce new processes to elevate the employee experience.

Relationship-building will also be a key aspect of the role. You’ll develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders—including service partners, people teams, health & safety teams, line managers, and employees. Alongside this, you’ll be responsible for tracking trends, reporting on core business activities, and ensuring stakeholders remain informed.

The role also involves supporting business travel arrangements. You’ll help ensure employees understand and follow Scottish Water’s travel guidelines, while feeling supported throughout the process.

What you'll bring

To be successful, you’ll bring excellent collaboration skills and a strong ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and partners. A solid understanding of data privacy and data security is essential, as you’ll be handling sensitive information in line with data protection regulations such as GDPR. Experience of Scottish Water’s data privacy policies is essential. As you’ll be handling sensitive data, you’ll need a high degree of discretion.

You’ll also have a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to enhance service delivery and take the lead on new initiatives. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail are crucial, especially when resolving complex issues efficiently. Finally, you’ll bring a leadership mindset—showing initiative, building meaningful relationships, and inspiring others through your commitment to delivering excellent service.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there’s our defined benefits, contribution pension scheme (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life insurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on the 7th of August 2025.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry - we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.

We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk
