Job summary

Cornerstone is seeking two Payroll Business Partners to join our finance team and deliver an accurate, compliant, person-centred payroll service for about 1,800 colleagues across Scotland, including Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen, with hybrid working options.

As a senior payroll professional you will act as a key contact for payroll queries, drive process improvements, analyse data, and coach staff to enhance payroll knowledge across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience delivering a comprehensive and compliant payroll and pension service
• Detailed knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, RTI, NIC, IR35, pensions, auto-enrolment)
• Experience with complex payroll calculations and retrospective adjustments
• Experience with payroll reconciliations, month-end reporting and payroll controls
• Advanced Excel skills for data manipulation and validation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
• Excellent organisation, communication and stakeholder relationship-building
• A degree or CIPP/IPPM equivalent qualification or extensive experience in a comparable role

Responsibilities

• End-to-end delivery of the monthly payroll cycle with deductions and statutory obligations
• Review and validate payroll data from multiple sources for accuracy and authorization
• Investigate and resolve complex payroll queries using technical knowledge
• Analyse payroll and workforce data to identify discrepancies, trends and risks
• Coach and train payroll colleagues and stakeholders to build capability
• Review and improve payroll procedures, controls and working practices to reduce risk
• Support system testing, upgrades and change initiatives
• Complete payroll reconciliations, period-end activities, and month-end reporting
• Collaborate with HMRC, pension providers and other bodies when required
