Job summary

Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. in York seeks a Senior Payroll Officer to ensure accurate, timely payroll processing for employees across the UK, Ireland and Sweden, coordinating with internal teams and external providers.

You will maintain payroll records, handle starters and leavers, manage bonuses and statutory payments, and support onboarding and payroll reporting in a dynamic engineering consultancy. This role reports to the Manager, Finance & Tax and requires strong numerical skills, UK payroll

Qualifications

• Previous experience in payroll and accounting administration.
• Experience with monthly payroll processing.
• Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation.
• Excellent numerical skills and high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in payroll software Dayforce and Excel would be ideal.
• Familiarity with Irish and Swedish payroll legislation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for UK, Ireland, and Sweden.
• Maintain payroll records and regulatory compliance (HMRC, Revenue Commissioners).
• Submit benefit payments and social security to vendors/government bodies.
• Liaise with external payroll providers and benefits administrators.
• Maintain employee payroll records (starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, statutory payments).
• Manage payroll reporting and reconciliations, month-end and year-end.
• Review and post timesheets; follow up on issues.
• Backup for Canadian payroll and other jurisdictions as needed.
• Assist with audits and payroll-related inquiries.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Payroll Officer to join our team in York. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our engineering consultancy, coordinating with internal teams and external providers, and supporting a smooth onboarding experience for all new hires.

This person will report to the Manager, Finance & Tax and is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working with people data, and has a strong foundation in payroll.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process accurate and timely payroll for employees monthly, both internal and external for employees in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Sweden
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with all the regulatory bodies (HMRC, Revenue Commissioners, etc.)
• Submit benefit payments and social security to the appropriate vendors and/or government bodies
• Liaise with external payroll providers and benefits administrators
• Maintain employee payroll records, including starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, and statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP).
• Reconcile payroll data and support finance with payroll reporting.
• Month-end and year-end payroll and benefits reporting and reconciliations
• Review and post timesheets
• Follow up with employees about timesheet issues
• Support with weekly and monthly accounting reconciliations for our subconsultants
• Provide backup for Canadian payroll, as required, and assist with the payroll of additional jurisdictions as the business continues to grow.
• Assist with audit requests
• Handle employee payroll queries professionally and efficiently
• Support administrative and accounting ad hoc requests

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however request the following minimum qualifications:

• Previous experience in payroll and accounting administration
• Experience with monthly payroll
• Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and best practices
• Excellent numerical skills and high attention to detail
• Proficiency in a payroll software (we use Dayforce) and Microsoft Excel would be ideal
• Strong understanding of Irish and Swedish payroll legislation would be ideal but not essential
• Experience with shadow and split payroll is an asset
• Experience within engineering, consultancy, or technical industries is an asset.
• Willingness to learn payroll in other countries as we continue to grow our global presence
