Job summary

The Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Backford near Chester invites applications for a Senior Staff Nurse who will lead a small nursing team providing pain and symptom control, end-of-life care, and support for patients and their families. The role focuses on developing specialist knowledge, compassionate care, and strong clinical leadership in a palliative setting.

You will work 30 hours per week across a variable shift pattern, with responsibilities including assessment, care planning, MDT

Qualifications

• Current 1st level NMC registration is essential.
• Experience in specialist palliative care is preferred.
• Commitment to patient-centred end-of-life care.
• Ability to support families and carers with empathy.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small nursing team to deliver high‑quality care.
• Regularly assess nursing needs and develop care plans.
• Act as nurse in charge and manage shift emergencies.
• Contribute to MDT meetings and coordinate patient pathways.
• Provide line management for healthcare assistants within the team.
• Respond to Out of Hours queries as required.
