Southend University Hospital NHS Trust invites applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Ophthalmology, specialising in Paediatric and Strabismus. Ideal candidates will be fully trained in General Ophthalmology and hold FRCOphth or equivalent, for a 1-year fixed-term post.

The role includes supervising cataract surgery and coordinating paediatric/strabismus services, with active participation in clinics and theatre sessions.

Qualifications

• Fully trained in General Ophthalmology.
• Postgraduate Ophthalmic qualification (FRCOphth or equivalent).
• 1-year fixed term fellowship.

Responsibilities

• Act as point of contact for Paediatric, Strabismus and Neuro-ophthalmology support to junior medical staff.
• Perform and supervise cataract surgery.
• Coordinate and undertake acute paediatric and strabismus service.
• Coordinate administration for Paediatric and Strabismus outpatient and inpatient treatment.
• Participate in paediatric and strabismus clinics and theatre sessions.
• Independently perform microscope assisted small incision strabismus surgery after fellowship.
• Contribute to research; publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at meetings.
