Overview

Senior Paediatric Liaison Mental Health Practitioner Core 13 role at Frimley Park Hospital (FPH) with a 13-hour service model (9am–10pm, 7 days a week). The post supports children and young people’s mental health needs, provides clinical leadership and supervision within the PLN team, and reports to the General Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist as part of your development.

The CYPS Paediatric Liaison Service at FPH ensures timely assessment and discharge planning for CYP presenting to the Emergency Department with mental health and emotional issues. The post holder will comprehensively assess, plan care, facilitate safe discharge with CYP and carers, and collaborate with ED Paediatric colleagues and CYP services and agencies.

Engagement and rostering: you will be part of a rota to cover the hours of operation for Core 13.

Responsibilities

• Lead clinical assessment of CYP with complex, potentially high-risk mental health needs, collaborate with medical, nursing and other professionals to ensure effective care and timely discharge.
• Work closely with ED, SABP Adult Psychiatric Liaison Service, Mental Health Crisis Teams, On Call Duty Psychiatrist, On Call Managers, and other Paediatric Liaison workers to ensure timely assessments, risk management, and development of management plans.
• Work within a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and treatment of CYP with serious and complex mental health difficulties in crisis.
• Manage own workload from referral to discharge/transfer, handle medium to high-risk cases, and reserve time for supervision.
• Lead initial assessments and facilitate referrals to Hope and/or discharge with a signed care plan regarding safety, recorded on the EPR.
• Represent the Service at professional/network meetings to provide advice/consultation on complex cases.
• Undertake CPD to improve crisis care assessment and treatment skills.
• Lead clinical supervision for PLN and junior colleagues within the service.
• Where appropriate, deputise in the General Manager's absence.

Qualifications

• Essential: A clinical qualification to degree level or equivalent; Membership of NMC/SWE/HCPC.
• Essential: Band 7 with 3 years post-qualifying experience, including 1 year as Band 6 in community settings.
• Desirable: Band 7 experience working with CYPS Crisis Pathways specifically.
