Job summary

Sword Group is seeking a Senior OT Engineer to deliver cyber security solutions across complex Operational Technology environments. You will work within a multidisciplinary team through the lifecycle of OT security activities, from assessing environments to designing and testing technical controls.

Responsibilities

About the role:

As a Senior OT Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of cyber security solutions across complex Operational Technology (OT) environments.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary delivery team, you will be involved across the lifecycle of OT security activities, from understanding existing environments and assessing potential risks through to the design, implementation, testing and assurance of technical security controls.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who understands the operational considerations of securing industrial environments and can work effectively across engineering, cyber security, architecture and operational teams.

Candidates will be required to successfully complete BPSS screening.

As a Senior OT Engineer, you will:

• Review OT environments, architectures and technical designs from a cyber security perspective
• Assess OT networks, connectivity, system interactions and data flows to identify potential security risks
• Carry out threat and vulnerability assessments across operational environments
• Support the design and implementation of appropriate technical security controls
• Configure and test security controls within OT environments
• Support firewall, network segmentation, secure configuration and monitoring activities
• Review technical solutions and provide security assurance throughout the delivery lifecycle
• Produce clear technical documentation, risk assessments and security assurance evidence
• Support technical solutions through governance, implementation and transition into operational use
• Work closely with engineering, architecture, cyber security and operational teams to resolve technical challenges
• Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure security considerations are incorporated into technical solutions
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of OT cyber security practices and ways of working.
• Practical experience working with OT, ICS, control systems or other industrial technology environments
• A good understanding of OT cyber security principles and the challenges associated with securing operational environments
• Strong networking knowledge, including network architecture, connectivity, segmentation and data flows
• Experience implementing, configuring or assuring technical security controls
• Understanding of firewalls, secure configuration and security monitoring within operational environments
• Knowledge of common cyber security threats, vulnerabilities and risk assessment approaches
• The ability to interpret technical designs, network diagrams and system architectures
• Experience producing technical documentation, assessments and supporting evidence
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a practical approach to solving technical problems
• The ability to work collaboratively across engineering, cyber security, architecture and operational teams
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical considerations clearly to a range of stakeholders

Qualifications & technical experience

• Knowledge of recognised OT and cyber security standards and frameworks would be beneficial.
• Relevant technical or cyber security certifications, such as IEC 62443, GICSP, Check Point or Splunk certifications, would also be advantageous. However, practical experience delivering security within OT environments is more important than holding specific qualifications.
