Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join our Orthopaedic Therapy Team. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in elective and trauma orthopaedic rehabilitation and will actively seek opportunities to support the development of the service. We offer a supportive and friendly environment and welcome innovative ideas.

The trust is committed to the professional development of staff, with clinical supervision and peer development being a core element of this role. The provision of clinical education for students from surrounding universities will be expected.

The Orthopaedic Physiotherapist will be a key role across a seven-day service, with opportunities to work with in-patients, community outreach, and outpatients. We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic and motivated, with an emphasis on clinical, communication, organisational, and time management skills, who will support the driving force to change and innovate service development within our Orthopaedic Therapy service.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Ormskirk Hospital; however, there will be opportunities to work within our multi-specialty areas.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assess and identify the individual needs of referred patients, clinically diagnose, and implement treatment plans, if appropriate, in a manner that respects people's privacy, dignity, and individuality.
  2. Participate in a 7-day service.
  3. In accordance with best practice, implement and evaluate Therapy Intervention.
  4. Record and report findings appropriately following the standard procedures used by the department to maintain high levels of written/verbal communication.
  5. Share skills/knowledge with other disciplines and patient/carers as necessary.
  6. Liaise with hospital/community-based staff as appropriate to ensure continuity of treatment and provision of equipment/adaptations to facilitate hospital discharge/prevent re-admission and support resettlement/re-enablement into the community.
  7. Participate in the respiratory on-call service.
  8. Provide and receive complex information which requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
  1. Provide professional practice education of Therapy students on placement and assist in the education and development of other health professionals.
  2. Actively assist in the promotion of Therapy through professional practice and delegated activities.
  3. Ensure continued professional development, including attendance at relevant postgraduate training and actively participating in in-service training.
  4. Keep an up-to-date Personal Development Plan and Professional Development Portfolio.
  5. Comply with the HPC Standards and Code of Professional Conduct.
  6. Participate in activity around clinical audit and work towards initiatives within the department/service/directorate as appropriate.
  7. Ensure treatments offered to patients are based on the best available clinical evidence.
  8. Ensure compliance with all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance, and Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
  9. Undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control Policies relevant to the post.
  10. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others affected by your acts/omissions.
Line Management/Supervisory Responsibilities
  1. Be aware of and identify changes in service demand and report to senior staff.
  2. Contribute to the ordering and maintaining of materials/equipment/resources to facilitate patient care.
  3. In the absence of senior staff, take responsibility for the daily running of the department.
  4. Attend/participate in Trust/Department briefing sessions and feedback/inform others as appropriate.
