Job Description

Who We Are

PowerLight was co-founded by our CTO, Tom Nugent, and Dr. Jordin T. Kare to change how the world distributes power. Our team has set numerous world records for beaming power over light and has won two NASA project awards. We are the first to develop a viable technology platform that demonstrates the safe long-distance delivery of electric power, and we are developing products to meet the Kilowatts over Kilometers needs of multiple industries looking beyond 19th-century copper wire solutions.

At PowerLight Technologies, we look for people who are humble, hungry, and smart—attributes exhibited by our most successful team members, combined with kindness and regard for others.

We value academic excellence, especially for this position, and appreciate individuals who are unfazed by equations, analysis, and mastering new concepts. Our culture emphasizes urgency, accountability, teamwork, fun, and a passion for science. We foster a workplace where preparation, healthy debate, meeting deadlines, and energy are prioritized.

We hire hands-on tinkerers who love making things work, providing them with excellent lab facilities to explore ideas. Our team members often have a history of inventing products or launching successful companies. They are undeterred by challenging, first-of-their-kind problems, and they learn quickly from failures and master their explorations.

We seek professionals skilled in designing boards, assemblies, optical chains, code, and processes—aiming for successful, field-ready, well-documented products and systems.

PowerLight is building laser power beaming solutions to transform energy delivery—from the ocean depths to lunar craters. Our team of scientists, engineers, and technicians is turning science fiction into reality.

A career here involves collaborating with leading experts in laser power beaming. Join us to bring your skills and help revolutionize energy distribution.
