Job summary

Infleqtion seeks an experienced optical engineer to join our team in Oxford, contributing to optical design, analysis, and integration for quantum sensing and computing. You will translate experimental concepts into engineered solutions, collaborating with physicists, opto-mechanical, mechanical, electrical and software engineers.

The role involves leading design reviews, developing optical systems from source to sub-system, and validating components through structured testing.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or equivalent.
• Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in a related field.
• Expertise in free space and fibre optic system design.
• Hands-on experience with precision alignment of optical and laser systems.
• Experience with optical simulation tools (Zemax preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of optical systems for quantum sensing and computing.
• Translate requirements into assembled and tested optical solutions.
• Work from component level to large sub-systems containing hundreds of precisely aligned optical elements.
• Optimize designs using computational methods and simulations.
• Lead design reviews and communicate findings to project leaders.
• Validate and characterize components and systems with structured test plans.
