Job summary

Infleqtion is seeking an experienced optical engineer for a senior role split between our Kidlington, Oxford office and the National Quantum Computing Centre, Harwell. You will design, analyze and integrate optical systems for quantum sensing and computing.

The role emphasizes hands‑on design, testing, tolerance analysis, and leading design reviews while collaborating with physicists and engineers to deliver reliable, high‑quality optics.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or similar field(s).
• 5+ years of industry experience in a relevant field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of optical systems for quantum sensing and computing with cross‑functional teams.
• Manage end‑to‑end process from requirements and design to assembly and test.
• Work from component level to large sub‑systems with many optical elements.
• Optimize and tolerance optical designs using computational methods.
• Use simulation tools to guide design decisions and communicate findings.
• Lead the design review process for optical systems.
• Validate and characterize components and systems with structured test plans.
