Job summary

Level Zero Health seeks an accomplished Optical/Camera Systems Engineer to own the design of optical subsystems and deliver compact, high‑performance imaging solutions for biosensing products. You will collaborate with mechanical, electronics and software teams to translate biosensing requirements into robust optical architecture.

The role demands expertise in optical design, image sensors and integration with suppliers.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in optics/photonics/related field with 3+ years of industry experience.
• Experience designing optical or camera systems for compact devices or medical wearables.
• Strong proficiency with optical design and simulation tools (Zemax, Code V, LightTools).
• Solid understanding of image sensors, camera architectures and imaging metrics (MTF, SNR, dynamic range).
• Experience with GD&T, manufacturability and alignment considerations.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot optical and imaging problems using structured root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and development of optical and camera subsystems, including sensors, lenses, illumination, filters and light guides.
• Design compact optical systems that meet tight size, power and thermal constraints in collaboration with mechanical/electronics teams.
• Model and simulate optical performance, perform tolerance analysis and qualify components with suppliers.
• Develop calibration methods, test fixtures and verification plans for development and production.
• Define image quality requirements linked to biosensing measurements and ensure robust real-world performance.
• Collaborate with software/data teams to define image acquisition and processing pipelines.
• Lead optical investigations, drive design improvements and communicate results across teams.
