Job summary

Ministry of Justice in the Yorkshire and The Humber Probation Service is seeking a Senior Operational Support Manager to provide strategic leadership within the Local Delivery Unit. You will direct cluster operations, oversee staff development, and drive performance and quality improvements across the service.

The role requires robust management experience within probation, strong stakeholder engagement, and a commitment to safeguarding and the agency’s values. On-call duties may be required.

Responsibilities

• Cluster operational lead on caseload segmentation issues such as Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, Integrated Offender Management etc.
• Operational support to the Head of Cluster within Probation Instruction criteria and rules such as Recall, High Risk of Serious Harm Case Transfers, etc.
• Support to the Head of Cluster within complaints, discipline, grievance, capability processes.
• Responsible for the professional development of cluster staff
• Develop and deploy the Cluster Training Needs Analysis
• Ensure effective cluster recruitment and induction
• Act as cluster lead for performance & quality
• Act as cluster lead for audits and inspections
• Support the Head of Cluster in reviews and action plans (Domestic Homicides, Serious Further Reviews, Serious Case Reviews)
• Management of the Business Manager and administrative support functions within the cluster
• Represent the NPS in local strategic partnerships and wider partnership frameworks
• Participate in MAPPA locally and chair MAPPA level 3 meetings
• In absence of Head of LDU Cluster, make decisions on management of offenders when required
• Support the Head of cluster in management of complaints within the cluster
• Lead on divisional or cluster projects including Equality and Diversity, Reward and Recognition
• Ensure cluster compliance with Health and Safety legislation
• Senior Management responsibility for estates, buildings and maintenance within the cluster
• Demonstrate pro-social modelling and counter anti-social behaviour
• Carry out safeguarding duties for children and adults as per NPS policies
• Work within the aims and values of NPS and HMPPS
