Senior Operational Risk Specialist

Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen within our 2LOD Operational Risk division.

We are open to this role being based in either our Manchester or London Head Office; with duties to include the below:

Main Responsibilities

1. Support the Head of Operational Risk Control in developing and maintaining the Bank's Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF), policies, processes, and tools.
2. Assist in producing and executing the Operational Risk Control Team's business plan.
3. Lead second line operational risk engagement in various activities, providing advice, guidance, and support on operational risk management to business functions.
4. Provide independent oversight, monitoring, and challenge to operational risk activities and profiles across the business.
5. Represent the Operational Risk Control Team at governance and risk forums and act as a delegate for the Head of Operational Risk Control when required.
6. Lead the design and enhancement of methodologies across the operational risk landscape.
7. Develop and deliver training on ORMF components, processes, tools, and systems across the Bank.
8. Analyze operational risk data for emerging trends and produce reports and risk opinions for senior management and governance forums.
9. Oversee the production of operational risk reporting, annual disclosures, and regulatory submissions, including ICAAP inputs.
10. Conduct deep dives, thematic reviews, monitoring, oversight, and control testing to assess the effectiveness of the risk framework.
11. Support the Head of Operational Risk Control as a key contact for regulators on operational risk matters.
12. Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders and support/coaching team members.

• Understanding of UK and international regulations related to operational risk.
• Experience in operational risk and control management within Financial Services (first line, second line, or Internal Audit).
• Experience with control testing or broader assurance activities.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain risk matters clearly to non-risk professionals.
• Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and engage proactively with the business.
• Comfort in challenging and influencing senior management decisions.
• Ability to assess risks independently and make informed recommendations.

Additional Beneficial Experience

• Development of operational risk policies and frameworks.
• Experience with ICAAP and scenario analysis.
• Familiarity with GRC tools and systems.
