Job summary

Manpower Engineering is recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering consultancy for a Senior Project Engineer to support a major rolling stock refurbishment programme in Kilmarnock. The role is site-based, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with on-site responsibilities across the early phases of the project.

Qualifications

• Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience in rolling stock refurbishment or similar heavy rail projects.
• Experience managing contractors and on-site activities.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and repair instructions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently on site.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary engineering representative on site and interface with the refurbishment contractor.
• Monitor refurbishment, repair and modification activities for compliance with standards and safety requirements.
• Review vehicle condition after strip-down and coordinate specialist engineering support as needed.
• Assess and manage engineering deviations and Approved As Worked (AAW) requirements.
• Carry out inspections across refurbishment stages and verify completion before acceptance.
• Support technical decision-making on repairs, corrosion treatment, and vehicle condition.
• Coordinate with SMEs to resolve technical challenges and aid programme delivery.
• Produce inspection reports, documentation and acceptance recommendations.
• Support governance, stakeholder engagement, progress reporting and risk management.
• Contribute to development and continuous improvement of inspection and repair processes.
