The Band 6 Occupational Therapist Medical/ Neurological Mixed Rotation offers qualified and experienced occupational therapists an exciting opportunity to work at a more senior level across various clinical areas.

You will work within supportive therapy teams to provide high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions, promoting the development and improvement of our services.

The rotation posts are between seven & nine months in duration and are across:

  • Acute Medicine Unit
  • Health and Ageing Unit
  • Hand Therapy
  • Critical Care
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
Main duties of the job

As a leading teaching hospital, King’s is a dynamic place to work. You will provide best-practice interventions through evidence-based practice, identify your learning needs, and supervise junior members of staff and students. You will proactively participate and lead CPD sessions and identify areas for service development.

This post requires a flexible approach to working across sites and a commitment to working weekends on a 7-day working rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL

  1. Identify, prioritise and manage patients requiring occupational therapy input.
  2. Assess and treat patients with complex needs.
  3. Competent in administering specific occupational therapy assessments.
  4. Develop and implement remedial and preventative treatment programmes.
  5. Complete risk assessments and implement risk management strategies.
  6. Recognise changes in patient condition and adjust treatment accordingly.
  7. Work within local policies, national standards, and professional ethics.
  8. Support patients in setting and evaluating their own goals.
  9. Plan and implement individual and/or group interventions.
  10. Select evidence-based techniques for treatment programs.
  11. Assess and demonstrate safe use of equipment.
  12. Liaise with professionals for continuity of care.
  13. Respect the individuality and diversity of patients.
  14. Maintain accurate electronic records.
  15. Write occupational therapy functional and discharge reports.
  16. Work as an autonomous practitioner.
  17. Assist in planning team workload during staff absence.
  18. Comply with trust policies and procedures.

COMMUNICATION

  1. Communicate complex information to patients and families.
  2. Participate in team meetings and delegate as required.
  3. Motivate patients to participate in sessions.
  4. Communicate professionally with families and other professionals.
  5. Manage differences of opinions and difficult conversations.

MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

  1. Supervise and support occupational therapists and students.
  2. Access trust support for staff wellbeing.
  3. Contribute to clinical governance and quality agenda.
  4. Assist in developing services according to occupational therapy objectives.
  5. Participate in planning, evaluation, and audit of practice.
  6. Responsible for competent use and maintenance of equipment.
  7. Assist with administrative duties.
  8. Utilize IT systems for data input.

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

  1. Reflect on practice through supervision and appraisal.
  2. Promote development of occupational therapy staff.
  3. Supervise occupational therapy students.
  4. Critically evaluate and apply current research.
  5. Participate in local audit and research projects.
  6. Demonstrate ongoing personal and professional development.
  7. Keep in touch with new developments in occupational therapy.
  8. Demonstrate leadership skills through project management.
  9. Participate in in-service training and conferences.

Qualifications
  • Occupational Therapy Qualification (Dip RCOT or BSc OT)
