Job Description - Senior Occupational Therapist (Mental Health) (25946)

Position: Senior Occupational Therapist (Mental Health)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne – across several homelessness service locations.

Type: Permanent, full time (37.5 hpw, Monday to Friday, flexible working)

Salary: circa £33,250 to £49,819, negotiable based on skills and experience, plus benefits including Health Cash Plan

Introduction: We are seeking a dedicated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Newcastle Homelessness Supported Accommodation services. The role involves developing a Psychologically Informed Environment and delivering trauma-informed clinical support and training to colleagues.

About the Service: Our services operate across Newcastle in various settings, including hostel and dispersed community accommodations. We support individuals with complex needs such as homelessness, health issues, mental health, offending behavior, and addiction. Our goal is to help customers transition from supported accommodation to independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead assessments and manage complex occupational therapy needs, providing clinical advice to support staff.
  • Collaborate with support teams to deliver personalized interventions and behavior support plans.
  • Identify skills development needs to help customers achieve their goals through daily activities.
  • Support the development of Psychologically Informed Environments within our services.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Relevant professional qualifications, including HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex needs, including learning disabilities, mental health, and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Ability to apply evidence-based practice and current occupational therapy interventions.
  • Use of OT expertise to support customers in a safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led manner.
  • Must have a vehicle insured for business purposes; mileage will be reimbursed.

Team and Support: You will work with line manager Garry, a Newcastle supporter and outdoor enthusiast, and receive clinical supervision from Heather, Regional Clinical Lead, who enjoys paddleboarding and swimming in the North Sea.

Role Details:

  • Flexible working hours and work pattern.
  • Autonomous diary management based on clinical needs.
  • Hybrid role: 1 day remote, 4 days at Newcastle service locations.
  • Enhanced DBS check required, paid for by us.
