Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) at EPUT.

The post holder will be based at St Aubyn's Centre in Colchester (Longview and Larkwood wards) and Rochford Hospital (Poplar Ward), in Rochford, near Southend on Sea. They will support the delivery of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, supporting Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Apprentices, and Activity Coordinators.

We provide an integrated service with in-depth, holistic assessments of the psychological, social, and physical needs of each referred young person. Assessments are undertaken for all young people before decisions are made regarding further inpatient treatment or discharge to appropriate care providers.

We emphasize a multidisciplinary team approach, with young people's care plans and views regularly discussed and agreed upon with input from:

  • Ward Doctors
  • Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Nurses
  • Support Workers
  • Psychologists
  • Family Therapist
  • Teachers/Education

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Undertaking occupational therapy assessments addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, focusing on self-maintenance, productivity, and leisure.
  2. Utilizing specialist assessments for complex cases.
  3. Deciding on the level of treatment intervention required.
  4. Planning and communicating treatment plans and clinical reasoning with patients and carers.
  5. Sharing treatment and care plans with multidisciplinary team members and partner agencies.
  6. Performing manual handling assessments and ensuring awareness among professionals and carers.
  7. Collaborating to modify environments to empower patients and optimize functional performance.
