Job description

The Adult Learning Disability Team is excited to offer an opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Community Specialist Health Team. The team works alongside Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Behaviour Therapists, Psychologists, LD Nurses, and Psychiatrists.

This specialist service supports individuals with learning disabilities in their homes and/or day opportunities, collaborating with families, carers, and care providers.

The post holder will be required to travel to visits and clinic appointments and work across trust bases.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Comply with the COT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, along with national and local procedures.
  2. Respect the individuality, values, cultural, and religious diversity of clients, contributing to a sensitive service.
  3. Reflect on ethical issues and guide junior staff as needed.
  4. Adhere to all standards, policies, and procedures of the service.
  5. Collaborate closely with Senior Occupational Therapy staff on all matters related to the service.
  6. Review and reflect on personal practice through supervision and appraisal.
  7. Supervise student Occupational Therapists, Technical Instructors, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and Basic Grade Occupational Therapists as delegated.
  8. Apply complex skills and knowledge to establish professional competence and fitness to practice.
  9. Engage in personal development through internal and external training, recording outcomes in a portfolio.

  • Be an active member of the Learning Disability Occupational Therapy Service and Community Learning Disability Team.
  • Provide person-centered Occupational Therapy services for adults with learning disabilities.
  • Manage a defined caseload using evidence-based and client-centered principles.
  • Supervise OT students on placement.
  • Provide leadership and supervision within the multidisciplinary team.
